Quechua

Flipping through my vintage National Geographic magazines I stopped in my tracks at a nameless woman whose image covered two pages. Bold patterns, multiple layers, and pockets. She looked defiantly forward at the camera. Her hands were full, she was yelling over her shoulder at someone off frame, she was in the middle of getting something done, and she spoke to me.

I took these first images and drew out of them items of clothing that were beautiful and functional. Silhouettes that were both feminine and capable. Stretch fabrics allowed for form fitting shapes that were still able to allow the wearer to function. Volume in the clothing not only serves a purpose of warmth but also allows for fun. Who doesn’t love twirling in a full circle skirt or jacket?

Quecha is the language of the original women who inspired me to create this collection.
